Defending UWI UNICOM Twenty20 champions Club Crusoe held their nerve to beat Central Sports by four runs in their quarterfinal match yesterday on the Sir Frank Worrell Cricket Ground at The UWI Sports and Physical Education Centre (SPEC) in St Augustine to secure their place in the final four.
Central Sports won the toss and, having elected to bowl, they made an early breakthrough. However, Christopher Vincent stood tall to keep the defending champions’ innings alive, smashing four fours and five sixes in his 37-ball 62. Even so, it was Rachad Forde who really got the Tobago side to a competitive total.
Forde faced just 22 balls for his 42 and smashed three fours and three sixes as Club Crusoe recovered from 118 for eight in the 16th over to go past the 150-run mark before being dismissed, four balls shy of their allotted 20 overs. Jahron Alfred was the best bowler for Central Sports, picking up three wickets for 15 runs while Varun Samaroo and Rakesh Maharaj finished with two wickets apiece.
